Pepper Square Redevelopment Update

Many community meetings have been held since 2022 regarding the proposed rezoning of the Pepper Square site at the southeast corner of Belt Line and Preston Rd. If you have not been able to attend any of them, we urge you to get acquainted NOW with what is being proposed. The zoning request will likely make it in front of the City Plan Commission before the end of the year. A rezoning of that site has the potential to dramatically change our area. Neighborhood input is required to bring about modifications to the development plan that allow for the revitalization of the shopping center without overwhelming our neighborhood. We have the potential to enact PD (planned development) conditions at the time of a zoning change approval that would implement restrictions on top of what's allowed by right. Below is a brief recap of the latest proposal presented by Masterplan, on behalf of Henry S. Miller: The developer is requesting a change in zoning from CR (Community Retail) to MU2 (Multi-Use 2) at the Pepper Square Shopping Center. Multi-Use development allows options such as retail stores or services on the lower floor, and apartments, condos, or offices above them. The height [...]

NHHA Member Benefit: Free Paper Shredding and Electronics Recycling

One of NHHA’s most popular member benefits, the Annual Shred Event, took place in early June. Over the span of three hours, NHHA Members lost thousands of pounds – pounds of paper and electronics, that is. Thanks to Action Shred, sensitive documents were shredded on-site, usually before the Member even drove away! They also collected old, broken, or unused electronics for recycling. Quite a few members were grateful to clear up closet space previously occupied by outdated computer towers and printers. With NHHA Board Members and volunteers directing traffic and unloading cars, the process for drop-off was quick and easy. Members undoubtedly saved time and money by utilizing this FREE service inside the neighborhood. NHHA enjoys offering this beneficial service to its members and appreciates those who participated.  It's FREE for our members, thanks to our generous sponsors. If you are looking for a service provider inside the neighborhood, these sponsors are NWH residents, NHHA members, and have shown to consistently support our wonderful neighborhood: Mitra Shamsa, The Shamsa Group, Ebby Halliday Realtors  Jeff Thompson, Ready Roofing & Solar Melinda Spence, Compass Real Estate Leslie Pulaski, Ebby Halliday Realtors Make sure your NHHA membership is current so you stay in [...]

April Alley Clean-Up

The second weekend in April is the Annual April Alley Clean-Up. Since Bulk Trash pickup for Northwood Hills begins Monday, April 10, this is the perfect opportunity to tend to your alley and dispose of any brush or debris you clear out. Each homeowner is responsible for maintaining the area from their back property line to the center of the alley. That includes trimming bushes so they don't scrape cars or obstruct the alley. Trees that overhang the alley are required to be trimmed up 15 feet to allow clearance for garbage collection trucks. If trucks have to maneuver to avoid your branches, trash, or other debris, chances are they will cause damage to your alley in the process! Let's keep it clean.

Capital Improvement Items for Bond Consideration

District 11 Council Member Schultz has asked us to organize a list of capital improvements that we want addressed in our neighborhood, in anticipation of the 2024 Bond election. Examples would be street reconstruction, alley reconstruction, flooding issues, parks, or any places in Northwood Hills you believe the entire city should invest in to improve. Those neighborhoods that organize will have a much stronger opportunity to be included in the election because it is often a matter of voices represented. IF YOU ARE AWARE OF CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT ISSUES THAT THE CITY HAS FAILED TO REMEDY DUE TO SIZE/COST, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SUBMITTED THEM TO 311 FIRST AND THEN SUBMIT THEM here.  We will compile the list for our neighborhood and present to our Council Member at the appropriate time this year.
